Free Suramadu Bridge, Jokowi Reported to Bawaslu

Jakarta - Incumbent presidential candidate Joko Widodo was reported to the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu). This is because of alleged violations related to government policies to free Suramadu Bridge facilities.

Jokowi was reported by the Rantau Advocate Forum (Fara) to Bawaslu this afternoon, Tuesday (10/30/2018). There were three Fara members who came to report Jokowi at the Bawaslu office.

They arrived at 16.50 WIB and submitted a report file to the Bawaslu secretariat. After completing the report file, they get a report receipt at 17.10 WIB.

Fara considered Jokowi's policy to free Suramadu Bridge as a covert campaign. They questioned the position of Jokowi, who is now also the presidential candidate.

"In connection with the free suramadu bridge by the Government of Indonesia on Saturday, October 27, where in the inauguration of the freeing it was carried out by Mr. Jokowi, who in this case served as the President of Indonesia or presidential candidate, it was suspected that this was a covert campaign or campaign violation," said Fara member Rubby Cahyady, after reporting Jokowi at the Bawaslu office, Jl MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta.

In addition, Rubby said the people around Jokowi made a one-finger greeting during the inauguration of freeing the Suramadu Bridge. According to him, this is one form of campaign by displaying self-image.

"Especially at the time of the inauguration there were many who showed the symbol of one finger greeting, which is the image of Pak Jokowi as the presidential candidate," Rubby said.

"I say this is veiled, with gestures (one finger) this is very clear. Because this is the president and the presidential candidate," he continued.

According to Rubby, this action violates Law No. 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, including related actions that harm others.

"It has the potential to harm other election participants, as stated in Article 282 juncto Article 306 in conjunction with Article 547 of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections," Rubby said.

He said Jokowi should not have arrived at the inauguration of the Suramadu Bridge. Rubby asked Bawaslu to examine the alleged violations committed by Jokowi.

"Why is Suramadu free, should the President also not need to come to Suramadu, through the relevant minister, it can. The term Jokowi does not have to come. We hope that the Election Supervisory Body can examine and decide whether there are election violations," he said.

As is known, President Jokowi abolished the Suramadu bridge tariff. He has denied that his policy was intended to gain votes in the presidential election.

Jokowi said the proposal for the bridge cost exemption in the form of the Suramadu Bridge Toll Road had existed since 2015. Initially, Jokowi said, religious leaders and the public asked Jokowi to remove toll fees for motorbikes.

The proposal was received and decided. Furthermore, in 2016, the community asked Jokowi to cut toll costs by as much as 50 percent for car vehicles. He also accepted the proposal and decided.

Jokowi denied his policy was related to politics. Even Jokowi said, if it was aimed at politics, the decision to abolish the toll tariff was only applied in the period approaching the voting for the 2019 Presidential Election.

"Yes, if we want political affairs, I'll free it in March, next year. That's all. Don't be associated with politics, this is economic, investment, welfare, justice," Jokowi stressed on the Suramadu Bridge on Saturday (27 / 10).
